Intermediate (3rd - 5th Grades)

Something exciting happens in 3rd through 5th grade. Students begin to move from learning the basics to doing something meaningful with them. Ideas get bigger, questions get deeper, and the world starts to feel like a much more interesting place to explore.
In the intermediate grades, students express their ideas with greater depth and complexity, bringing a sharper eye for observation and a growing ability to make predictions and draw connections. That curiosity is put to work through hands-on, experiential learning woven regularly into science and social studies, both in individual and collaborative settings. Learning isn't just something that happens to our students — it's something they actively participate in.

These are also the years when students begin to take real ownership of their education. We intentionally build opportunities for growing independence across all areas of study, helping students develop the organizational habits, time management skills, and study strategies that will serve them well into middle school and beyond.
At Ave Maria, the intermediate years are about more than academic growth. They are about helping students discover their voice, trust their thinking, and step confidently into the learners they are becoming.
